Michael W. DeWitt helps corporate clients resolve ERISA problems. He does this by providing expert advice and defense litigation.
He has particular emphasis in ERISA defense litigation and consultation regarding life, health and disability claims. Michael defends corporate clients in claims regarding breach of contract, bad faith and punitive damages involving both ERISA governed and individual plans.
Michael has a great deal of experience in litigating securities-related disputes. He helps his clients in issues regarding employment contracts, particularly with regard to both the enforcement and defense of non-compete provisions. Michael also has extensive experience representing clients in general business disputes.
Michael is an experienced litigator who has successfully represented clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts. He routinely represents corporate clients in arbitration cases before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (previously the National Association of Securities Dealers).
Michael also offers his clients expert advice to help them avoid problems that could lead to future litigation. Prior to attending law school, Michael spent several years in the financial planning industry both as an insurance agent and a licensed securities broker. He has first-hand knowledge of the challenges that face professionals in the securities and insurance fields. He uses his experience to help his clients alleviate problems that could lead to litigation in the future.
Michael is a former Research Editor of the Capital University Law Review and is an adjunct professor teaching the legal research and writing component in the Capital University Law School ABA-accredited Paralegal Program.
